Irregular Plurals of Nouns

Most Russian nouns have plurals formed according to regular rules, just a few
nouns have irregular plurals. This page will introduce the most common
irregular plurals of nouns.
Types of Irregular Plurals

Some masculine nouns take stressed -а instead of expected
-ы in the plural. This unit presents ten such words. Memorize them:

Some nouns of foreign origin ending in -о, -е, -и or -у never
change their form. They are called indeclinable. The nominative plural
of indeclinable nouns is the same as the nominative singular. Examples: радио
(radio), кафе (cafe), такси (taxi, cab), кенгуру
(kangaroo).

Some nouns are invariably used in the singular. Examples: дружба
(friendship), вода (water), масло (butter),
etc.

Some nouns are invariably used in the plural. Examples: деньги
(money), часы (clock, watch), брюки (trousers;
pants), etc.
